Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup sugar 200g
  • 1 cup water or substitute with ½ cup orange juice and ½ cup water
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries one 12-ounce package
  • optional mix-ins: pecans, orange zest, raisins, currants, blueberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the cranberries by placing them in a colander and discarding any damaged or bruised cranberries.
  • Put the water and sugar in a medium saucepan on high heat and bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
  • Add the cranberries to the pot and return to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until most of the cranberries have burst.
  • Once the cranberries have burst, mix in optional ingredients like chopped pecans or orange zest, and add spices to taste.
  • Remove the pot from heat. Let cool completely at room temperature, then transfer to a bowl to chill in the refrigerator.

Notes

You can reduce the sugar if desired and adjust the water accordingly.
