Beef and Vegetables

  • 0.5 pound ground beef
  • to taste salt
  • to taste ground black pepper
  • 0.5 small onion, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or more to taste
  • 1 small head cabbage, sliced

Liquids and Seasonings

  • 2 cans (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14 ounce) low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Serving

  • 0.25 cup sour cream or to taste
  • 2 cups cooked rice

Cooking Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season beef with salt and pepper; cook and stir in the hot skillet until browned, about 5 minutes.
  • Add onion and garlic; cook until onion is translucent, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add tomato sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well mixed.
  • Add cabbage to the skillet and bring to a simmer. Cover and let simmer until cabbage is tender, about 20 minutes.
  • Serve over rice with a little sour cream.

Notes

This dish is a quick alternative to traditional cabbage rolls and serves well with additional sour cream or hot sauce for extra flavor.
